What should I do? What direction should I go in? Which goals should I pursue? We all encounter these questions, or similar, once in a while. We might be offered a new job, or we just feel a strong need to change direction in our careers; we might feel like it\u2019s time to move on. Whatever the issue is, sometimes we need to choose between two paths, and it often isn\u2019t very easy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I designed this spread because I am facing such a dilemma myself! I have two paths ahead of me that are quite different. They would each require me to commit, with no real \u201cgoing back.\u201d It is unknown if either is particularly better than the other, for me, for my family, or for my future. I just wanted some insight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When designing this, I thought it was important to establish where I am now, what my position is, or what meaning it currently holds. This becomes the first card. To the left of the first card lies the path I am currently on, and would follow if I were to make no changes. To the right, reflects the path ahead if I intentionally make some big changes in my life that I have been considering. These are all just potentials, of course; they are possible outcomes, you might say. None of this is written in stone. The cards in this spread help me reflect and notice things about each path, each choice. The cards aren\u2019t showing me a future, or future events. Rather, they are helping me recognize what I intuitively expect I might find on each path.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The layout consists of ten cards. I could have made it far larger, but I like to keep spreads manageable. If I find I need further insight after a reading, I can expand on it with follow-up or clarifying cards. I think this worked rather well for me as is though.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. VII of Wands<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This is a really appropriate card for this position. The Seven of Wands indicates strength and courage, but also uncertainty. It speaks of tackling an issue. There may be a sense of pressure or opposition, but a basis of strength and strategy in moving forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Page of Swords<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

For the current path, this card fits quite well. The Page is shown here finding his way through the forest. He is stealthy and astute, and moves with a bit of gracefulness. I think it works to describe where I feel I am at on my path, finding my way carefully and with alertness.<\/p>\n\n\n

3. VII The Chariot<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This is a fantastic card for a spread about moving forward, and it picks up from the Page. It indicates progress and change. So even though this is the current path with no overt changes, the Chariot points to a likelihood of natural change through simple progress. It\u2019s a good sign, or reminder, that even by staying on my current path as planned, things will continue to move forward and progress will be made.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. XXI The World<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

I always love drawing the World in tarot readings. It really is a special, dynamic card. It is a culmination of so much, and in this position it really emphasizes that the current path has the potential to yield much in the way of reward or fulfillment. The card speaks specifically of finding one\u2019s purpose, and also in a more mundane sense, points to expansion of horizon, moving, or making a big change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I find it really interesting that even though I have been concerned that my current plan might be stifling, or moving with too much uncertainty or slowness, it looks like it might be just as fruitful as an alternative choice to make greater change.<\/p>\n\n\n

5. XX Judgement<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Card 5 shows the alternative path, what I am considering if I choose to change course. Judgement is another very apt card, as it points quite clearly to dramatic change. It speaks specifically of moving or changing careers, and in this case, works very well. It is a good card to reflect the idea of a very deliberate change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

6. Queen of Wands<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

I have always felt somewhat aligned with this Queen. Her appearance here briefly makes me wonder if it means this path is more authentic for me. But I sense it might just be pointing to potential for growth, specifically in the context of business or employment. There is also some independence (and distance) to this card, that I think could manifest on this path.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

7. Ace of Cups<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Ace of Cups shows a lot of joy, emotional fulfillment, and simple happiness. That certainly makes this alternative path look appealing!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I think it\u2019s obvious that both paths as depicted by these cards, follow a progression, move forward, and bring some level of fulfillment. It makes me think that really it isn\u2019t so much about the specific factors of each path\u2026 each path is equally valid and might be equally meaningful. The differences seem small, but might be significant in the end. I am inclined, if I believe the insights from these cards, to keep on with the current path. That ultimately, it might align more powerfully with a sense of personal purpose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unwavering guidance or insights<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The middle column of cards offers a few hints about what is going on inside that likely won’t change through either path.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

8. XV The Devil<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Card 8 shows what I really need right now, or want deep down. Well, the Devil! I\u2019m not sure anyone really loves seeing this card turn up in their readings, but really it isn\u2019t necessarily bad. Lately I have been feeling somewhat tied down or constrained by certain things in my life. I also know that there are some things I need to change on a personal level that will be of benefit no matter which path I choose. What I really need is to let go of these things, let them fall away, so I can move forward more freely. The Devil reflects this perfectly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

9. V The Hierophant<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

For card 9, I see truest potential, as well as what I should put my trust in. I meant for this card to show me what to kind of hold onto as I move forward. What might give strength. It\u2019s an interesting card \u2013 like the Devil, it\u2019s one I really rarely draw. The way I am reading it in this instance, is to hold firm to my spiritual beliefs, let them be a source of strength; allow inspiration; let my values lead me; and also, as corny as it might sound, be empowered by my marriage. These things can help me move forward authentically and with faith and courage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

10. King of Swords<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The tenth card is meant to show something that is eternally, deeply true, something to never lose sight of. The King of Swords isn\u2019t exactly what I would expect to see here, but it can make sense. I can remember the traits of the King of Swords that I might find within myself, to help me stay focused on either path. There is a very intentional energy to this King, as well as a sharp and direct focus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bringing it all together<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

I found this reading to be very helpful, personally. It made me feel better about there being any uncertainty, and that no matter which path I chose, either would \u201cget me there.\u201d In either case I will continue moving forward, learning, growing, accomplishing, and finding meaning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
