Where to begin? Well, this is the first post of a new blog, which is part of a new site… However, it really is a continuation of a site – and the work – I started many years ago.

The past…

In the 1990s I began doing professional tarot readings online through a small personal site I named Winter Moon. Back then a visitor would first submit a reading request to me through a contact form. I would do the reading, return a written report to them, and then they would send me whatever payment they felt appropriate (through snail mail). In most cases these payments exceeded what I would have asked if I’d been pricing readings myself. I read for people in the US mostly, but read for clients in countries around the world as well. It was rewarding, interesting, and most of the time, quite enjoyable.

The thing is, it wasn’t long before I felt pretty conflicted about doing professional readings… Not that I had any qualms about whether they were legit. I put a lot into those readings, took each one very seriously, and the reports I wrote were multiple pages long. It simply began making me feel uneasy, doing repeated readings for return clients who asked the same questions each week – how good was it for them to revisit the same questions, looking for different answers?

I found myself discouraging repeated readings, and instead helping others to read for themselves. People were incredibly receptive to it, and loved learning to read for themselves; it was empowering to them. Helping others learn to read tarot for themselves quickly became more rewarding to me, and it didn’t have the same kind of baggage that reading for others did. I created an offshoot of my readings site, where I offered basic instruction and insight into reading tarot.

… life happens! …

I stopped doing readings professionally and continued the learning site for many years. Well, life happens, things get away from us, and eventually I lost my domain name. I reluctantly renewed the site with a variation of the original domain. I was never really pleased with the new domain for a variety of reasons, and found myself contending with the sleazy behavior of others (meaning, intellectual property theft). Without going into it, after much consideration I decided to retire that domain and move forward with a new one, and a new – or resurrected – name – this one, Winter Moon Review. I’m continuing the initial thread in a way, and with this name I don’t feel I have to keep things limited to tarot.

The future…?

Where will this site go? I’m not entirely sure right now… Tarot was introduced into my life when I was around thirteen or fourteen and has stayed a part of it ever since. My relationship with it has changed over the decades. But it has become a part of who I am. When I am gone, there will likely be at least a few tarot decks that I will have had for many, many decades, that have always been stored beside my bed. They are somewhat like a piece of heirloom jewelry, or a favorite book.

Thanks for coming along with me on this new site. If you have been familiar with any of my other sites, thank you for sticking around!
