I renewed my subscription to the Witches Moon Box to make sure I would receive the Samhain collection. The Witches Moon is one of my all-time favorite subscription boxes. They know how to put together a fantastic collection for arguably the biggest holiday in modern paganism.
An introduction
This month’s box is called the “Veil of Samhain.” The Witches Moon included a special subscriber note in this box. They say about the Veil of Samhain, “the shadows represent our truest nature, where we can face our fears and liberate ourselves from the worries and anxieties of mundane life.” They encourage change and being open to new perception, and wish for us healing and understanding. This letter is a nice addition to the box and demonstrates a personal involvement in the creation of their collections.
The Veil of Samhain
The Witches Moon says, “Our journey through the labyrinth brings us face to face with the thinning veil, which can easily be touched through the rituals of Samhain. It is on this path that we shed our fears and embrace our descent into the beautiful and prevailing darkness. The opening to the realm of spirits is now visible in the distance, welcoming us to the guidance and truth that we have avoided for too long. Our reunion with these shadows marks a new chapter in our lives, where we acknowledge all aspects of our being, and work to understand and build upon their shifting shapes. This exclusive and one-of-a-kind collection is one of our most anticipated!”
Shadow and Change
I think one of the reasons I love the Witches Moon Box so much is that it is almost always timely for me. The message or theme of the boxes often suits my personal life exceptionally well. This is true for the October box. After more than a few very difficult years, that included the loss of my dad and my mother-in-law, I’m at a point where I must stop, rest, and reflect. Not only is finding the light within important, so is recognizing the shadow. There has been a good deal of self-acceptance with this self-reflection.
The Witches Moon Exclusive Hand-Carved Labyrinth of Samhain
The Witches Moon says, “To walk the path of the Labyrinth is to journey to the threshold of shadows, where the thinning veil acts as a mirror into our subconscious self, providing a source of reflection and contemplation.” The Labyrinth is described as a tool for journeying within, especially to the “darkest realms” of ourselves. This practice can be transformative.
We trace our finger along the groove of the hand-carved labyrinth while in a meditative or trance state. This is a surprisingly effective practice, especially while focusing on a chosen mantra or intention (as the Witches Moon suggests).
The Witches Moon created the Hand-Carved Labyrinth especially for Samhain, but they encourage use any time of year. It measures around 7 1/2″ in diameter.
Book of Shadows and Grimoire Artwork
The Labyrinth Book of Shadows Artwork is a beautiful illustration and guide to using the included hand-carved labyrinth. It outlines the history of labyrinths in ritual or meditative practice, and can serve as wonderful inspiration.
Also included is the Labyrinth of Samhain Book of Shadows Artwork; these two pieces are separate and unique. It is designed to be recited before using the Hand-Carved Labyrinth, and is beautifully illustrated.
The Garnet Crystal Grimoire Artwork offers detailed information such as correspondences and properties of garnets, that can assist while working with the included Natural Garnet Crystal.
Natural Garnet Crystal
A hefty natural garnet crystal is included in a purple organza pouch. Said to enhance creativity, garnet is also a stone for boosting confidence and enhancing your work. The Garnet Crystal Grimoire Artwork described above is a beautiful guide to working with this stone.
Samhain Ritual Supplies
In each Witches Moon Box is included a variety of useful supplies for ritual or simple self-care. In this month are small herb packets including Autumn Alchemist Ritual Herbal Blend, the Samhain Seer Ritual Herbal Blend, and the Twilight Realm Ritual Herbal Tea w/ Muslin Bag. These herbal blends were created by the Witches Moon and are meant to enrich personal workings.
This month’s salt is called Spirited Pathway Artisan Sacred Salt, created especially for the Samhain season. Other ritual supplies include Hand-Rolled & Anointed Entrance to the Veil Twin Spiral Beeswax Spell Candles, the Shadowland Dweller Magickal Anointing Oil, and Black Opium Ritual Incense Sticks.
