The Witches Moon Box is a subscription box that I started getting years ago, and have had to pause a few times due to finances, or to circumstances where I wouldn’t be able to fully enjoy the offerings. This year has been a little rougher than I’d expected. It started with getting hit by a truck, as a pedestrian, in February (fortunately no lasting injuries, but still, an unsettling experience). And though much of the year has been great, I and my husband have encountered other health and financial issues. The latest for me was of course, the concussion. I thought it was time to kind of treat myself to something that was specifically self-care, and specifically spiritual. I felt what better way to start than by resubscribing to the Witches Moon Box for October 2025.

It’s been close to a year since I last subscribed. Today the October box arrived. I noticed a few things had changed, for the better. The incense included is now packaged in a box (rather than a zip baggie), and is a brand name. I don’t think there was anything wrong with or inferior about the incense previously used, but this does look quite nice. There is no room spray or mist in this box. This is fine for me because due to allergies I rarely used this item. As always, everything is well packaged, securely nestled in with protective padding and crinkle paper.
Samhain and the Obsidian Key
The name of this month’s box is Samhain and the Obsidian Key.
The Witches Moon says, “As the veil between the worlds begins to thin and the whispers of ancient spirits beckon, we invite you to embrace the beauty of Samhain. This sacred time of year, overflowing with tradition and reverence, calls us to honor and contemplate the cycles of life and death, and to reflect on our deep connection to those who have come before us. Within this very special collection, you will find tools and treasures designed to facilitate your journey to the ethereal veil, allowing you to peer into realms of wisdom and where signs and symbols excite the senses. Each carefully curated item serves as a key, unlocking the mysteries of the past and shining light on the path to deeper understanding. Join us in this magical exploration, where the spirit of Samhain transforms our practice into a profound celebration of the unseen worlds.”
Your magical calendar
The Witches Moon has provided a brief listing of upcoming dates for the magical calendar. This is a nice added touch. It also offers a mantra for the month of October, and shares wishes for an illuminating Samhain season. This is one thing I really enjoy about the Witches Moon, and about these boxes over many others. There is a personal, and unhurried feel to them.
Obsidian Scrying Mirror w/ Stand

The Obsidian Scrying Mirror with Stand is a truly unique and beautifully simple piece, intended for deep self-reflection and spiritual learning. The Witches Moon encourages a calm, quiet, and focused approach. They guide the reader through using a scrying mirror, encouraging care and the allowing of gentle intuition. Fictional portrayals of scrying often overemphasize the mysterious, the magical, or the stereotypical fortune-telling elements that so many people associate with divination. The Witches Moon instead steers clear of sensationalism. It suggests using the scrying mirror in a very introspective, personal, and sensible way.
The scrying mirror is the focal item of the October box, and so it should be. It is an impressive piece of custom cut, polished obsidian. The accompanying stand holds it securely. A scrying mirror is a fascinating addition to anyone’s spiritual pathwork.
Original Book of Shadows Artwork

The Book of Shadows Artwork included in every Witches Moon Box is really a highlight of this subscription. The artwork is original, designed by A.E. Alden for the Witches Moon, and is always a visual delight as well as informative. Each Book of Shadows Artwork is perfect for including in one’s spiritual journals and is lovely for framing.
The first piece of course accompanies the Obsidian Scrying Mirror w/ Stand, providing useful instruction and gorgeous inspiration. Whispers Through the Veil “explores our connection with our ancestors during Samhain and how best to prepare for the experience.” Asteria Book of Shadows Artwork features the “Titaness” Asteria, who is said to “be found where shadow and starlight meet.”
Supplies for ritual, spiritual practice, and self-care
Ritual supplies for October include Hand-Rolled and Anointed Twin Scrying Beeswax Spell Candles, Door to the Mystical Ritual Anointing Oil, Earth of Our Ancestors Ritual Herbal Blend, Frankincense Tears, Sea Salt, the Prophecy Stone, and Handmade Natural Myrrh Incense Sticks.

The beeswax spell candles included in the Witches Moon Box are always of great quality. I am always happy to receive them with my subscription. This month, the candles are meant to be used with the Obsidian mirror, during scrying sessions. These are anointed with Myrrh, Frankincense, Cedar, and Jasmine essential oils, as well as with a special scrying blend crafted by the Witches Moon. These are not scented candles, rather, the essential oils are used for their energetic properties.
The Door to the Mystical Ritual Anointing Oil is also crafted with natural essential oils. These oils include Frankincense, Ylang Ylang, Cedar, and Cinnamon; as well as with herbal components. I personally appreciate that these oils are made with a base of sunflower oil. The intended use of the oil is as an anointing blend for your own items, such as talismans, candles, or other tools.
Herb, salt, and stone
The herbal blends provided in the box are all packaged in cute zip baggies, nicely labeled in the Witches Moon style. Earth of Our Ancestors Ritual Herbal Blend is “earthy and sweet,” symbolizing a connection to Earth and ancestor. Frankincense Tears can be used on a charcoal burner, and heighten the sacredness of our work. Sea salt is well-known for being grounding, and being used for absorbing unwanted energies.

I love the stones included in the Witches Moon Box. For this month it’s the Prophecy Stone, also known as the “Egyptian black diamond.” It is said to help clarify one’s thoughts. It is intended here to be used with Samhain rituals for gaining deeper insight.
Sonavi incense sticks in Myrrh are included in the box as well. This is a well-known, and well-reviewed brand, said to not be as overwhelming with scent as others.
Personalized Oracle Reading
Each Witches Moon Box contains a single card from a divinatory deck, considered to be a small, personal reading. For this month, cards are from the Talisman Oracle Deck by Nora Paskaleva. The Witches Moon suggests taking the time “to contemplate why you would have received this specific card and incorporate its symbols into upcoming workings.” My card depicts a scorpion, which is one of the creatures of this earth that really unnerves me (haha)! And it is titled Defense.
Parchment paper
A useful sheet of parchment that is easy to insert into a Book of Shadows or spiritual journal. Use for documenting scrying insights, ritual details, or simply reflections on spirit.
