Many of us first read about the Greek gods and goddesses somewhere in elementary or middle school. I remember staying up late and poring over the tales, being intrigued and fascinated, and even unsettled at times. Most who embark on a journey of witchcraft or paganism will encounter this pantheon – it has had quite an influence on the development of magic and witchcraft, and other paths. And, to state the very obvious, the Greek myths continue to have a big presence even in pop culture; we all seem to have at least some familiarity with them. The January Witches Moon Box focuses beautifully on this pantheon in a collection devoted to these gods and goddesses.
The Magick & Mythos Collection
The January Witches Moon Box is titled The Magick & Mythos Collection, and they describe it thusly: “We dive into the deep pool of the Greek Pantheon, calling upon the Gods & Goddesses of ancient times, recognizing their power and influence, and pulling them into the modern world. For anyone that is even remotely interested in Magick or Witchcraft, the Greek Pantheon plays an important and historic role, stretching its enchanted fingers into every crevice of the craft. In this stunning collection of items, you will find correspondences and intuitive guides, awe-inspiring artwork, and tools to connect and communicate with these timeless teachers. It is our truest intent, that the Gods & Goddesses touched upon in this collection bring you a sense of guidance and empowerment for the long journey ahead.”
Mythos Tarot: Guidance from the Greek Gods

The focal item in the box is the complete packaged Mythos Tarot guidebook & cards set by Helena Elias. This is a newly published set of which the author says, “The Greek Pantheon consists of divine and semi-divine figures who harken back to the foundation of western civilization. First recorded in Ancient Greece, these eternal archetypes echo through the ages, singing insight into the heart of what it means to be human. …The truths imbued in this tarot deck are tried and tested. The force of each Greek deity has been carefully tailored to the energy of each card, which keeps open the timeless wisdom of the tarot yet offers novel channels of internal connection influenced by each god or goddess.”
Book of Shadows Artwork

To enrich our engagement with the Greek pantheon in this collection, the Witches Moon has included several pieces of artwork meant to be kept within one’s Book of Shadows. These illustrations are created by the accomplished artist A.E. Alden, and beautifully add to each Witches Moon Box. The artwork included for January are A Variety of Greek Gods & Goddesses, which is an inspired depiction of many of the most influential figures in the pantheon, with brief descriptions; the Hermes Book of Shadows Artwork; the Iris Book of Shadows Artwork, celebrating this lesser known Greek goddess; and the Orphic Hymn to Tyche Book of Shadows Artwork, which accompanies the Orphic Hymn spell candle.
Ritual Supplies

Every month the Witches Moon includes items that can be used in ritual work, or simply in self-care practices or meditations. In the January Witches Moon Box they have provided the Hand-rolled & Anointed Orphic Hymn Spell Candle; Phoebe Magickal Anointing Oil; a lovely “Glassy” Amethyst Crystal; Psykhe Ritual Incense Sticks; Aphrodite’s Embrace Sacred Salt; small packets of Elecampane Root, Eleuthero Root, and Heights of Hera Ritual Herbal Tea (w/ muslin bag); and a single sheet of Parchment Paper for “writing down your intentions and goals.” The paper can be used for noting the components of a ritual or spell, or jotting impressions after a working, or anything else you might like to keep within your own Book of Shadows or spiritual journal.
Personalized Tarot Reading – 1 Card Pull
A single separate card from the Mythos Tarot was also included with this box, to provide a “personalized tarot reading.” In my box I received the Four of Cups, which corresponds with Styx (goddess of the River Styx). The card interpretation speaks mostly of melancholy and feelings of apathy, and the need to allow passion again. I’d say the card has its place in my life and how things have been going lately. I’m still coming through the deep sadness of the last few years, and thus, it has sometimes been difficult to find joy in the things I used to love.
