I’ve been an on and off subscriber of the Witches Moon Box for years now. It’s one of the best subscription boxes I’ve ever tried. I return to it when I feel I can afford it, or when I really just need to treat myself. Recently, I decided to check out the Witches Roots Box (by the Witches Moon), and ordered one of their Past Boxes – the August 2024 box.
The Witches Roots

The Witches Roots is a smaller offering than the Witches Moon Box, at a lower price. In the words of the Witches Moon, this Box “provides the supplies necessary to connect with the energies of Natural Herbal Witchcraft.” It offers a smaller number of items, and – in my experience anyway – smaller format artwork. There is one packet of herbs in this box, and of course, focal items would be of a smaller size. I have really enjoyed some of the focal items of the Witches Moon, but happen to love the one that was included in this Witches Roots Box I received.
The Witches’ Watcher
This collection is timely for me. I have to add, the Witches Moon Boxes are often timely for me – seriously, they often seem to fit precisely what I am experiencing in my life.
Of the Witches’ Watcher, the Witches Roots says, “The constant chatter of distractions can wear heavy on a soul, bringing burden and anxiety where love, curiosity, and excitement should prevail. We step away from the constant conflict and journey into nature, where the mystical guides and watchers are always present. We breathe deeply, releasing all that tortures us. We allow time, space, and stillness to enter our bodies. As the nerves begin to relax, we realize that there are innumerable creatures staring at us, viewing us as our most authentic self. It is here, away from the overwhelming stewpot of daily life, that we can finally be present. Where the messages from the otherworld can be heard.”
How well does this describe what I have been going through lately! This past summer was overwhelming, but I hung in, and I was doing okay. I began autumn feeling alright, but over the past few weeks developed symptoms I couldn’t ignore. A slew of blood tests and scans seems to point to my Hashimoto’s progressing.
This box fits so well with what I am trying to give myself at this point. It is a very sweet collection, and I look forward to implementing everything inside.
Handmade Mystical Owl Cameo Necklace

Even the necklace seems timely to me… I live by the woods – not too close but close enough – and have been hearing owls hooting almost nightly. My husband and I have been talking about it, and I have been thinking a lot about owls. They also seem to be showing up for me often, in art, design, etc.
This necklace was a treat (I mean, I really do not mind getting new jewelry!). The owl is crafted from Gypsum Cement, a durable type of plaster. The Witches Roots says, “the Owl represents wisdom that is passed from the spirit realm to those that are receptive to their guidance.” It also speaks of being open to new truths “vital for your growth.”
Book of Shadows Artwork
There were two pieces of Book of Shadows Artwork: Coltsfoot Herbal Grimoire Artwork, and The Owl Book of Shadows Artwork. Both of these were written and illustrated by A. E. Alden, for the Witches Roots. These pieces offer information, correspondences, and details on magical properties.
Mahogany Obsidian Tumbled Stone

The Mahogany Obsidian Stone is called a “stone of encouragement and togetherness.” It is suggested that the stone be used in creating an environment to “receive messages and guidance from the spirits.” It is a very nice stone, and came in an organza pouch.
Ritual Supplies

For ritual, the Witches Roots included a small packet of Coltsfoot Leaf, Guided Magickal Anointing Oil, Dispel Ritual Incense Sticks, and the Hand-rolled ‘Guide Me’ Mini Beeswax Spell Candle. All of these items are meant to be used in whatever way is comfortable or meaningful.
Coltsfoot Leaf, used externally only, is said to be useful when feeling lonely, offering a sense of companionship and guidance. It can easily be incorporated into personal ritual or placed into sachets. The oil contains a blend of Vanilla, Lavender, Clove, Tobacco, and the Witches Roots’ “Astral Visions” blend. These oils are contained in a base of sunflower oil. The oil is said to help encourage one to see more possibilities. And Dispel Incense is rather self-explanatory! It is a great incense to use in dispelling negativity in an area. The perfectly sized candle is intended to help one receive direction or insight during meditation or ritual.
Secret Language of Your Soul Oracle Card
At the top of the box was a single card from The Secret Language of Your Soul: An Oracle for Mind, Body and Heart, by Inna Segal and Jane Marin. I received the card “Relax into the Unknown.”
