November light and shadows

One thing I’ve been noticing about November this year, is the light. We move from the crisp, often bright and sunny days of October, into the starker, colder light of November. But that starker light, and that bleakness that is often typical of the month, might serve for reflection. We can find meaning in November’s colder lights, its grays, and its deeper shadows. We can find a stillness, and even a sense of peace. The Witches Moon Box for November offers us a selection of items and artwork that can help facilitate this, as well as bring celebration to these seemingly drearier days.

The Bell of Shadows

Inside the Witches Moon Box for November ’24

The Witches Moon includes a subscriber letter near the top of the box. It shares notes and feelings about the process of creating the month’s box. I find this subscriber letter to be further demonstration of personal involvement in this subscription box.

The description of the box is also included:

“The days are much shorter now. Even the birds and creatures of the land begin to find their resting place as the Sun retires beneath the youthful day. As we gently find our place within the crisp dusk air, we settle in. The rushing and roaring of daylight, as well as the common anxieties of responsibility, are now gone. The shadows are finally here. Our thoughts begin to turn inwards. With discipline and a spark of inspiration, we spend this time working through our magickal practice, falling deeper and deeper into our shadow work. Before our ritual, we place a very special tool on our working altar. It is the Bell of Shadows. The ring of the bell begins to clear the ill thoughts and emotions around us, making space for our call to be heard throughout the cosmos. Cling…Cling…Cling… The ritual has begun…”

The Witches Moon Exclusive Bell of Shadows

Witches Moon Exclusive Bell of Shadows

According to the Witches Moon, the ringing of bells dates to an estimated 4,000 years ago. They began as a form of communication and evolved into being used in spiritual practice and music. The Witches Moon says, “To honor the season, we specifically crafted this bell to clear energy, focus intentions, call upon spirits for guidance and assistance, bring awareness to hidden aspects, anchor emotional processing, and to transition and close rituals.” The design of the bell includes elements inspired by the Barong (spirits found within Balinese culture). The Witches Moon worked with a group of Balinese artisans in the design and creation of the Bell of Shadows.

The Witches Moon also includes instructions on assembling the bell (it arrives packaged safely in three pieces), as well as suggestions for use. A natural piece of Agni Manitite crystal anchors the bell. It was chosen for its reported properties of boosting willpower and bringing transformation.

Book of Shadows and Grimoire Artwork

Book of Shadows and Grimoire Artwork, original to the Witches Moon

November’s box includes original artwork that complements the theme of the box perfectly. This month’s box includes The Bell of Shadows Sigil & Instruction Artwork by G.Ibis, as well as The Agni Manitite Crystal Grimoire Artwork, The Spirit of the Barong Book of Shadows Artwork, and the Dewi Sri Book of Shadows Artwork, all by A.E.Alden.

Each Book of Shadows piece is beautifully illustrated and provides background information and correspondences. The Bell of Shadows Sigil & Instruction Artwork is just what it says and is meant to be used alongside the included Bell of Shadows (each sigil would be cut out and placed within the bell’s stand, as shown).

Ritual Supplies

Ritual and self-care supplies

I always feel like I am getting a full selection of items with each Witches Moon Box. They are excellent at choosing just the right supplies for each box. The supplies include the Spirit Sentry beeswax candle, meant to encourage calm and relief; the Protector of Prosperity anointing oil, which includes Jasmine, Papaya, Almond, and Sandalwood in its blend; Guardian of Harmony sacred salt, meant to be used in baths or simply on a sponge; three packets of herbal blends; and a set of incense sticks.

Rutilated Quartz Crystal

A very nice piece of rutilated quartz crystal is included in a small organza pouch. This stone is said to “amplify” our energetic work. The Witches Moon suggests that it be used alongside the Bell of Shadows.

Personalized Oracle Reading

Every month the Witches Moon Box includes a “personalized oracle reading,” which is a single card from a different oracle deck. For November, they chose The Light Code Apothecary: A Practical Tool for Maintaining Your Light, Even in the Dark, by Izzy Ivy. This is a lovely, dynamic deck of 70 cards. My box came with the card Central Sunlight. The card’s message is “Be activated by loving light from the portal within.”
