On that note, I want to share a terrific company that has really made a difference for me in my day-to-day life. I first heard about OGL from women who weren’t being well served by the bras that were available. Bras weren’t fitting well or comfortably, or by the end of the day, were simply unbearable – unwearable. I think we can all appreciate that comfort is important to our overall wellbeing. More often we are embracing treating ourselves with kindness – even just in the choices of clothing we put on every day.
Bra tops for comfort and natural beauty
There’s been an increased availability of “bra tops,” with more than a few brands offering tops in unique styles. They are the ultimate for “wire free” comfort. OGL is my favorite. I discovered this brand about a year ago, and now have quite a few tops in various styles and colors that go from everyday casual wear to dressy nights out. They’re a simple but brilliant idea, and more and more, they are forming the basis of my everyday wardrobe!
If you’re unfamiliar with bra tops, these kinds of tops provide a built-in shelf bra of sorts, but with varying levels of lining or padding, and varying degrees of support. OGL’s bra tops have a stretchy but secure under-bust (as in bras, a snugger fit in this band helps provide support), and comfortable, durable, removable inserts that enhance the beauty of one’s natural shape and offer a small amount of lift. OGL’s inserts stand out from those of other brands in quality, shape, and feel. Also, the tops and the inserts are designed for the inserts to stay in place. I have found the support to be more than adequate, and the lift just right. I have tried bra tops by other brands that end up pulling on my shoulders within a few hours, because the under-bust band does not actually provide any kind of support. The under-bust band might be too loose, stretch too much, or ride up. Those tops might look nice, but don’t do well at taking the place of a bra.
Gorgeous necklines and artful designs
OGL frequently adds new styles to their collection, and these styles really are new – often with exciting new necklines or timely colors. They offer tops that hug curves closely, accentuating waistlines, but also offer tops that have a more blousy or relaxed fit. Their fabrics hold up, wash and wear well, and are designed to be better for the environment. They often include small details that stand out, like thumbholes, frog button loops, Mandarin collars, and modern cutouts and ruching. I particularly love that they offer many tops with boatnecks, because it’s the most flattering neckline on me.
Cropped isn’t the default
One thing I really enjoy about OGL tops is that they tend to be long enough! I have a short torso, and even I have a hard time with a lot of tops that end up being too short for comfort. Care and wear
I wash all of my OGL tops on gentle, in cold water, after removing the inserts; then I hang dry. They have all held up beautifully, and colors have stayed true.
Beyond bra tops
OGL offers skirts, pants, and sweaters, in addition to their tops, and by the way, not all of their tops include a built-in bra. I have not yet purchased any pants or skirts from them, though there are some on my wish list! As for the tops that do not have a built-in bra, they are buttery soft and super comfy, perfect for lounging or layering.
Notes on sizing
I’m a somewhat smaller person – my frame is on the petite side, and technically I’m a 28E in bra sizes. I often find that a 30D works best, and it is much easier to find. Or, when I’ve had to (and I have too many times), I have worn 32C. I’m not particularly busty, but I do need support. I also have an ongoing back problem from an old injury, so if I don’t have support, I feel it in my upper back and shoulders. I find that OGL’s size Small fits me the best, though I’ve also done well with Mediums in some styles. The inserts are bigger with each size, so for me, the Small is ideal. OGL has a reputation for doing very well with larger or more busty sizes that need even more support. But of course, your mileage may vary.
Customer service
Before I placed my first order I was a little hesitant. Although I had heard good things, I’d also read in a few social media posts that some people were concerned about OGL being shipped directly from China. Personally, I’ve ordered a number of things from abroad (China and elsewhere), over many years, and tend to not have any issues with this. The only times I’ve had any shipping delays in such cases, those delays happened here in the States. So, with just a little hesitation, I placed that first order. OGL is great about communicating through the order and shipping process. And though not as speedy as Amazon might be, it is pretty quick. Because bra tops have some specific care needs, OGL also follows up with an email about how to care for bra tops and the inserts themselves. This kind of attention impresses me. It makes me feel that the company knows its product and cares about its customers. It wants customers to love their new items, and essentially, to be happy customers.
