I drew a single card today as a message for myself. My intention with drawing only one card was to focus on an essential truth that I could learn from and hopefully grow from. The card I drew was the Page of Swords from the Mythos Tarot. In this deck the Page of Swords is associated with the Greek god Erebus, a god of darkness and of the underworld. At first I was not exactly thrilled to see the card, but in reading about it, I learned that in fact Erebus in this context represents both darkness and light, and that in itself is significant to me right now.

Darkness and Light

Lately I have been giving a lot of thought to darkness and light, specifically to how I feel I have done so much “shadow work,” but had I allowed the light within to also freely be expressed? I think over the last couple of decades there has been an emphasis on our shadow selves in personal work, and it seemed to me that although there may have been a tendency to ignore these sides of ourselves previously, we have perhaps now begun to ignore the importance of the lighter or more radiant energies.

My thoughts had been along those lines, and I have been reflecting a bit on allowing the light – not ignoring the dark or abandoning it, but simply making sure I wasn’t closing the door on the light in the often-suggested process of embracing one’s shadow. This card, though it was surprising and not immediately welcome (haha), seems to reflect this perfectly.

The Page of Swords – Erebus

In addition to speaking of enthusiasm, curiosity, insight, and new perspective, the interpretation of the card says,

With this revised vision comes a desire to share what you can see with the world, so be open to expressing yourself and discovering different ways to do so. Without a fear of the dark and unknown you will find yourself filled with light, and keen to illuminate for others what you’ve seen and learned with a strong desire to connect with those around you.

I am heartened by this. It seems to indicate to me that my so-called shadow work has been effective, and it offers a reassuring encouragement to do what I had been contemplating: allow the freer expression of light from within.

I don’t always find one card readings to be terribly impactful. Often, I feel the need to draw one or two more cards. But in this case the one card really provided a complete message for me that I was able to readily connect to my life.

On a more mundane note, I am finding the Mythos Tarot a very enjoyable deck to work with. The artwork is evocative and the writing is direct while also being insightful and meaningful (review to come!).

The Mythos Tarot was included in the January 2024 Witches Moon Box, which I reviewed in my previous post.

As always, thank you for reading, and please do not hesitate to get in touch with comments or questions, or just a simple hello.
